10th October 2008
Windsurfing: Club Perili-Turkey
Wind Direction: cross off
Wind Stength: 15 max
Surf / Sea State: nice swell
Air Temperature: 25
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: sunny
Max Speed: 24.5 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 29 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

We started off our last full day at 7.45 am with a 6 mile mountain bike ride along the beach road and up into the hills to the top to see the new wind farm being built. It was a great run back in time for breakfast. Then straight on to the water with Mag in a Topaz each having a brilliant couple of hours in the light cross off breeze. We had our picnic lunch on the beach and with the wind still light we thought we would give the lasers ago.Mag out with the 4.7 in the increasing wind did very well and still has'nt been in the water!!! I found the laser alot more fun and much faster as I am too heavy for the topaz ( but it's still great fun to sail for a dinghy novice like me) The laser was very lively and I was soon in the water but wrighting it was easy and I was quickly underway.Unfortunately I sailed into the 'black hole behind Anderson Island where the wind blows in circles and I was whacked on the head with the boom !!! I made it out into the bay where the wind had increased to a force 3/4 with a good swell running and I had a good run out, right on the edge for a beginner like me !!!! being the first time out in a laser. The rescue boat caught up with me to tell me I was miles outside the limit(not for the first time this week) and asked me to sail back to shore as I had blood pouring down my face !!!! I had my head cleaned, signed some forms and was ready for more action. With Mag safely ashore I helped myself to a starboard go 133 with 8m as it was good out in the bay.So after floundering out past Anderson rock I found a good force 4 and would have been better off with the 7m but it was too far to go back and change so I carried on for a mega 1hr 30 mins blasting back and forth with only flying fish for company !!!! They let me bend the rules letting me sail out far past the limit and I had great fun blasting past the returning day boats and the odd hobie cat but for most of the time I had the whole bay to myself as I have had every windy day.A quick beat up past Anderson island and a reach back to the beach just in time for tea and cake with Mag and to watch the staff laser race.So a great day starting at 7.45 on the mountain bikes and finishing at 6 on the board, with the following top speeds,Bike 21 mph,Topaz 6 kts,Laser 10 kts and windsurfer 24.50 kts covering 29 n/miles with 4.37 hours moving !!!
